Family FAQs
How can I prepare my children/family for the session?
Basically, try to be prepared for every contingency. I won’t laugh if you bring a suitcase with you. At the minimum though, bring makeup and hair accessories for quick touch-ups. If your session is for child photography, it can’t hurt to bring an extra outfit or two, in addition to the planned outfits. Favorite toys and snacks from home are encouraged. Bubbles lots of bubbles.
What type of clothing should we wear?
Happy to talk about clothing in your before-session consultation. In general, stay away from bold prints and large patterns; with family photography, simple is best. Ideally pick a tonal range and stick within that range and your images will have both contrast and cohesion. Also, if you are having baby portraits shot while we are working together, "birthday suit" or diaper-only is fine if you are wondering. These images are yours to cherish so if its reasonable I am happy to capture it.
Can we include our dog in the Family Photos?
Yes. Family pets (esp. dogs) are welcome to be photographed as part of the family but note that pets are not permitted on many beaches in SWFL. Lee county is cool with it but Collier not so much. State Parks a minimum require a leash. I love dogs!
Do you photograph large groups?
Of course! For large groups, we capture many different groupings, depending entirely on what your goal is. If it is a collection of wall art, or a family album, expect many images to choose from!
What if I don't like my photo being taken?
That’s a common feeling, and I can appreciate it. I often feel the same way, but mostly it’s because I don’t want to see a bad photo! We will work together, get to know each other a little, and maybe have a laugh or two. My most common review is that I am easy going and disarming. That's where al those years in the service industry kick in. You might think "wow he's taking a lot of photos"... there is a reason for that. I am looking for best one not just praying one turns out. And often I press the button when you least expect it, and that can sometimes turn out to be the best shot! Best part, I am not stingy about what ends up in your gallery and because your images are included in the quote, I am very generous with what is delivered.
Do I have rights to the images?
I grant you an unlimited personal license to use and share your images, order prints, post on Facebook, etc. I do hold on to my copyright, which would only affect you if the image were to be used commercially (which I do not allow without permission).
