Family FAQs

  • How can I prepare my children/family for the session?

Basically, try to be prepared for every contingency. I won’t laugh if you bring a suitcase with you. At the minimum though, bring makeup and hair accessories for quick touch-ups. If your session is for child photography, it can’t hurt to bring an extra outfit or two, in addition to the planned outfits. Favorite toys and snacks from home are encouraged.

  • What type of clothing should we wear?

We’ll talk about clothing in your before-session consultation. Items to avoid are bold prints and patterns (which can distract the eye when viewing photography). Also, if you are having baby portraits done consider doing some of them with no clothing or just bottoms on. Tastefully done “birthday suit” baby photography emphasizes the simple beauty of your child with minimal visual distraction.

  • Can we include our dog in the Family Photos?

Yes. Family pets are welcome to be photographed as part of the family but note that pets are not permitted on many beaches in SWFL.

  • Do you photograph large groups?

Of course! For large groups, we capture many different groupings, depending entirely on what your goal is. If it is a collection of wall art, or a family album, expect many images to choose from!

  • What if I don't like my photo being taken?

That’s a common feeling, and I can appreciate it. I often feel the same way, but mostly it’s because I don’t want to see a bad photo! We will work together, get to know each other a little, and have a laugh or two. It really doesn’t take very long to relax in front of a camera when you’re distracted by other thoughts! And often I press the button when you least expect it, and that can sometimes turn out to be the best shot! Trust is the main thing, and I won’t let you see those shots where you blinked because it would be my fault for being too slow to press the shutter, not yours!

  • Do I have rights to the images?

I grant you an unlimited personal license to use and share your images, order prints, post on Facebook, etc. I do hold on to my copyright, which would only affect you if the image were to be used commercially (which I do not allow without permission).
